In reply to: Double side bars? Latest version of WP and any theme. This is Atahualpa 3.7.6 Theme (the one I want to use.)
When I go into it’s Widgets – there is a “right bar” and an “inner right” – the “inner” one has no widgets in it…
No other bars have any widgets at all…
Fluid Blue 1.7.2 does not exhibit the same issue (yeah it seems like an Atahualpa prob…?)…
However plaintxtBlog 4.6.1 DOES… except this time on the LEFT… doh…?
Strange…

In reply to: Double side bars? Latest version of WP and any theme.Darn – nope – deactivated plugins – same deal – I only have 4 plugins anyhow and 2 are the default ones that came with WP…
It is just bizarre…

In reply to: User Roles – need user to login but not “do” anything?Sorry to bump this up again – but I am not getting too far.
Basically I have upgraded to WP3 and the new versions of Role Editor but am still not getting what I want.
I want a standard WP site and then have a user log in and see a normal WP site (without being taken to the Admin section) but only “see” posts/pages that I want them to see.
I decided to use Drupal but I don’t want to…I find WP so much easier to use!
Help turn the tide…

In reply to: User Roles – need user to login but not “do” anything?Hi there MrMist,
The plugin I refer to is: http://www.shinephp.com/user-role-editor-wordpress-plugin/
And I see today that it has been updated to be compatible with WP3. Good news so far.
But – I have created a new Role and assigned that to my user – but…it does not do what I thought it would! So I better read the docs on this one…
Thanks for the prompt comments all the same. (I’ll update this later so at least future posters may know if there is a resolution.)

In reply to: WP on std internet but need to login before accessing it?OK – thanks Esmi – have tried it now.
BTW – there are a couple of registration first plug-ins. They both do the job! I thank you very much for the shove in the right direction. Well appreciated.

In reply to: [Plugin: TinyMCE Advanced] br and p tagLatest version of TinyMCE and WP 2.7.1 seems fine FWIW.

In reply to: WYSIWYG editor stipping out <P> <BR>Went to http://www.opensourcecms.com and tried the WP 2.7 demo site that they host. Using Chrome 2.x or Safari 4 Beta.
CR’s still being stripped.
So that eliminates a config error on my part (I hope).

In reply to: WYSIWYG editor stipping out <P> <BR>OK – tried again (new install of 2.8 Beta) – no plugins – standard default theme. Using Mac OSX 10.5.x and XP Pro SP3. Chrome, Safari, IE and FF. Using Apache and PHP on my local PC – acting as the Server.
Standard posting is 100% fine. Adding images and so on – also fine.
As soon as I switch into HTML mode and edit ANY tag or text and THEN update the post then the carriage returns or breaks get stripped.
I tried turning off the Visual Editor but even entering bog standard HTML tags does not undo this problem.
At first I thought it was a browser issue but I doubt it at this stage.
Interesting.
I am not bitching but just curious as it does not initially appear to be “user” error and it seems quite repeatable.
My friend uses WP 2.7 on his site and he has never had a problem BUT he only EVER uses the Visual editor and NEVER goes into the HTML at all.

In reply to: WYSIWYG editor stipping out <P> <BR>Spoke too soon.
Nope. Still broken! Not cool. Not having a crack at the excellent WP dev team but this seems such an important thing.
As soon as you switch to HTML – it MAY break and re-introduce the stray BR/CR.
I have also formatted all my text in a HTML editor (FrontPage) and then copied/pasted into the HTML tab of WP and NOT touched the visual editor but…
Darn!
🙁

In reply to: WYSIWYG editor stipping out <P> <BR>It may be a bit premature to break out the champagne…but…I have d/loaded and installed the 2.8 Beta and it SEEMS to not break when switching between the HTML and the Visual editors.
The whole point I love WP is it’s ease of use and the main reason to want to use HTML is I want to mix some HTML is so I can plonk in the odd table or whatever.
I could prob ignore tables and survive – but my problems always began when I stuck in a <hr> via HTML.
As for the various FCK and TinyMCE editors – yeah they work but that introduces more complexity and they are not 100% bug free (FCK and Chrome/Opera don’t seem to play nicely together).
I am not keen on changing any of the PHP files that make up WP lest an update to WP leaves me out in the cold.
External editors like Qumana and ScribeFire are OK and SOMETIMES don’t trigger the stray CR / BR problem but again not guaranteed.
So – here’s hoping that 2.8 will cure this issue fully…
Fingers crossed.

In reply to: WYSIWYG editor stipping out <P> <BR>Sadly – known problem, in 2.7.1 this is still the case – but not for everyone. And it does not appear to be theme related. I pray this gets resolved one day. Esmi is correct – it seems (oddly enough) to get “triggered” by switching between Visual and HTML – as soon as I do that – BAM! Reproducable.
(And yes I have scoured these fine forums and tried all the tricks and FCKEditor and so on…)
Maybe Beta 2.8 will address?

In reply to: Anytime I use HTML it all goes pear shaped!! (LONG!)Mmm – interesting – and actually you are prob right on the money!
Must be some combination – I had some posts where I created the page in DreamWeaver – then copied / pasted the HTML code direct into the HTML tab of WP. Mostly that’s fine.
And then some posts were done in the visual editor of WP and then I have switched to the HTML tab and applied some HTML formatting tags.
Mmm – this is a pain in the proverbial. Could this be kinda bug…?
Is there any workaround other then the Rodney Dangerfield one? [Doc it hurts when I do this? Then, don’t do that!]
It seems such a strange quandry.
Respect.

In reply to: Anytime I use HTML it all goes pear shaped!! (LONG!)Update:
I am trying a 2nd install – just manual upload/install. It is possible that something went wrong with all my other installs. But I can re-confirm that standard Posts using the visual editor work fine.
It is just that as soon as I switch to HTML mode and add any HTML tags then things start going messy.

In reply to: WP adding line breaks even without visual editorInteresting – this was an issue in early versions of WordPress and Mac OS (suggestions to use Qumana abounded). What versions are you running and on what OS/platform are you seeing this?
For the most part this should not be happening for you.
Respect.
