    Thanks for the response. I’m looking in to custom fields at the moment and using post types to store the inventories, recipes, etc.

    Creating and maintaining the inventory is pretty specifically what I am trying to accomplish. One of the end purposes being able to generate shopping lists that can be shared, traded etc.

    The materials in question have a myriad of variations…sizes, colors, etc so there’s a fairly complex organizational structure I’m trying to wrap my head around…from a data input standpoint on the user side as well as sharing that data in terms of the recipes, and inventorying completed recipes. Convoluted I know.

    I get it’s all data and sorting/searching through it…just trying to figure out the best way.

    I hear you that custom taxonomies aren’t the way to go for several reasons.

    Right now I’m concentrating on custom fields and posts as the organizational system. Just trying to figure out how to deal with with many variations of the ingredients.

    I haven’t written a line of code in 7 or 8 years…so a lot of it is just re-wrapping my head around arrays, variables, etc.
