Any update on this issue? Were you able to reproduce this? I would like to use your plugin but it just isn’t working right now.

This is not an issue with the plugin but merely a conflict between the plugin and the theme you are using. The resolution is to either change the name of the excerpt() function in either the theme or the plugin. You should not expect him to change his code for this unless he’s feeling extra nice.
