Same issue here. Have reinstalled v1.5, which can be downloaded from here, and it looks like everything is back to normal.
Hopefully v1.6.1 will provide a fix. I see it just became available.
I was one of the people affected, and I too have my site hosted by Namecheap.
Madhatter’s advice to me via email included this: “Have your host (NameCheap) upgrade your PHP to at least version 7. Right now, it looks like you’re running at 5.6, which is the bare minimum for Jetpack and was introduced 5 years ago. Upgrading to a version past 7.0 should increase your performance and efficiency up quite a bit.”
Just bringing it up in case it helps someone resolve this.I, too, have been getting a 503 error on my site (http://www.mapforge-software.com/) over the last week or so. My site was inaccessible about a dozen times a day, for 5-30 minutes at a time.
The only thing that fixed it was disabling the Jetpack plugin. Is this a widespread issue with a recent Jetpack update? I keep my plugins frequently updated.
I hope a fix is found soon so I can reactivate Jetpack.
