Thanks Jacob and Ross! This was my first WordPress post! I am very excited and I thank you both.

Jacob … Yes. I did want to create different partitions for different development environments so I could learn about them, and choose the one that worked best for me. Since I am just getting started, I thought I would just get off on the best foot from the start. I’ve had an idea for a site for years but figure I may need to try a lot of things with different components to get there. So I thought I’d find just the right environment to make that easy. I am new to this, but have been reading my brains out and think I can do this. Thanks. Very encouraging.

So, Jacob and Ross … “I can make multiple development environments on one operating system install/partition.” Wow! Do you actually mean I could actually install Vagrant VVV, and Local from Flywheel, and maybe Wocker by Docker all on the same drive partition? … Windows or Ubuntu? … and the sites, and datebases, would be insulated from each other, and each will work just fine? Wow! If so … that is very cool! Somehow I got the idea they couldn’t. That is so wonderful I can hardly believe it and had to say it again to wrap my brain around it.

Thanks to both of you on that.

Hmmmm … so … does that mean I will have different LAMP or WAMP stacks installed on the one partition too, one for each environment? Or will they all use the same (Apache or whatever) server … or different servers? Does each environment have a different stack?

Ross … I was thinking I would use Ubuntu mostly also. I will have to do some research to learn more about those you mentioned though, as I have been on again and off again on it … but figure that’s the way to go since most production servers are Linux.”

“…Ubuntu Mate”, I also put lots of computer users onto this system, depending upon their background I can give them either Redmond (=Windows) or Cupertino (=Mac) desktops with minimal cultural shock.”

… and the WinXP is a good steer too. Thanks.

Thanks for the good help guys. You’ve made my first post a really good experience and this new guy really appreciates it a lot. I will get right on it.

What to do? … “I should probably check the Reply and mark as resolved” box as I got very good news. But, I’m having fun so I think for now I will just hit Submit … and check it next time … because, I’m new to this and it is very exciting. Thanks again!
