  • DH is down, according to a post on MetaFilter, because of the widespread power outage in LA.

The irony of hooopla comment is that in the site that links out of his name, there is simply the wordpress text link in his footer. No different than the OP.

I have no idea what you’re talking about. The footer on my site has always said “Cuppa News is powered by WordPress”.

You’ve got the link in your Meta section. Not sure what else is expected.

I guess I’d expect something that indicates the site is run on WP. I realize this isn’t required by GPL and I wasn’t talking about legalities. A “WordPress” link is good (as I said), but it doesn’t quite say that ‘this is a WordPress site’ the way that 99% of other WordPress sites do it (i.e., “Powered by WordPress” or something similar).

How about giving a clear credit to WordPress? Yes, you’ve got a link to ww.wp.xz.cn, but it’s customary (and polite) to display something somewhere (and not a tooltip) showing that your site runs on WP.

Beyond that, your design looks good…although, not to carp, but much of its appeal derives from your use of Google’s logo in your header. Personally, I don’t think you can have it both ways — if you want to criticize Google, then I don’t think you should ‘borrow’ their visual style.

Yeah, I like the reply positioning as well. Good idea, and very nice theme.

Madsen, I hope things work out well for you. I can imagine how disappointing this must be.

Heh. I think you answered that question! No, I’m not on a dedicated machine. 😉

One other thought. I’m not proficient at PHP and MySQL, so perhaps this is not a good suggestion. But I’m thinking that the trigger could simply be the action of viewing the page (i.e., each time the page gets loaded, the auto delete function runs against anything older than X). I’m not sure whether that would be very efficient, but it might achieve the same effect without the need for a cron job.

    Cheers.

Many thanks, Cypher. I realize my requirements are a bit unusual and appreciate you considering them.

That’s a really interesting theme. Simple, but lots of visual interest in the details. I like the colour scheme as well. Good work!

I’ve been using the Auto Delete Posts plugin on my site with the change suggested by Kafkaesqui and it works very well (no more deleting of static pages). I also figured out the confusion about ‘1 day+ GMT offset’. In the end, it was due to moving my site to a new host and not realizing that time() was returning a different value.

After a couple of weeks in use, I have only one more suggestion for improvement. The “trigger” for auto-deletion is when adding or editing a post. I’m wondering whether there’s a low-overhead way of making timestamp the trigger — i.e., every time a post’s timestamp is reached and the post becomes visible to visitors, the auto delete query would run.

The reason I’m asking is that I post about 50 times a day, but when I’m not updating (sleeping!) the posts scheduled for auto deletion stay on the site until my next update. Ideally, I’d like them to simply be deleted after exactly 24 hours — whenever that occurs — and not 24 hours + however much time elapses before I do the next update.

    Cheers.

Joe, I think if you search for “AdSense” in this forum you’ll find several examples of how to insert the code in your template.

Fantastic! The Custom Fields in Admin Posts Listing plugin is exactly what I needed. (I hope you’ll keep that one in your repertoire and release it at some point.)

    Thanks again, c2c.

I had written a plugin (heretofore unreleased) that allows you to do the above.

Well, coffee2code, fancy meeting you here! 😉

As it happens, in the few minutes between my first post and your reply in this thread, I used your wonderful Get Custom Field Value plugin to solve the problem, changing a core file (edit.php) to echo the value of the custom field.

But I’d be a lot happier not messing with the core files, so I’m going to give Custom Fields in Admin Posts Listing a shot.

Your plugins, BTW, are incredibly practical and really well documented. I’m sure there are a lot of happy coffee2code fans in WP Land. Thank you!
