I’m afraid the problem is a bit more hidden, but have no idea of how to find it.

The same issue has happened to me some times. When I edit a plugin (or any other php file) from the file manager that comes with cpanel, it adds empty lines at the end of the file (after ?>).
TO SOLVE THIS you only have to delete those empty lines.
