That would be one way, i tried this solution: http://www.codeinhouse.com/remove-slug-from-custom-post-type-in-wordpress/
This results in most pages getting a 404, even after flushing the permalinks. Looks like I’m missing something, but I’m lost a little now :/

Not really resolved, as all the pages now result in a 404. I already tried to save and change the permalinks but this didn’t work. How can I achieve a link without the /links/ slug?

Nevermind, I looked on the wrong place. You can just replace the rewrite slug from links to /
