can I reinstall the whole thing without lossing the data?
I did all the steps you suggested. It appears to have reset itself back to the default theme, but still has the same problem – no posting showing.

Nether the plugins tab doesn’t show any plugins. What’s happened?

It supprises me that all 8 sites would go down at the same time.
One the upside, if I find the fix for one, I probably have the fix for all 8
