I think the ‘fancy editor’ is really the WP Editor (slimmed down).
When it’s on it exchanges the regular textarea in threads and replies to the ‘fancy editor’.
Looked around and I’m not sure but I think it’s being called from bbp_get_the_content()

If you don’t have much resources to begin with the caching size on a buddypress+w3tc site could come as quite the surprise if you didn’t plan for it.
I won’t have problems myself but right now the overall cache for the site comes to around 132M /200 members.
