Thanks for your reply.

– I have checked and my version is 3.5.27 i.e. the latest.
– As you could see in the screenshot you referred to, this version DOES give me both the option of guest posting AND choosing roles.
– I have disabled all plugins except WP User Frontend together with Twenty Twenty Two theme and the same error occurs.

Update:
I saved various settings and then went back to these same settings and now (correctly) I don’t get both options.
Saiful also worked on it and now the issue is resolved.
