Hello Friend, I also had the same issue few days back when i noticed the error from my search console saying the sitemap error issue on XML Tag.
Been sincere i got worried too because my site posts didnt index anymore so i made some solution by rolling back to the previous version using WP ROLLBACK plugin
After i did a roll back the errors where all gone immediately and my xml tag errors were gone . Here is my website Musicbear.net and my post are indexing.
