Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Buy one plugin and then links to four or five moreI think that is a bit of a cop out.
Wordpress itself is the reason these plugins are being developed.
You say SOME developers, nearly all developers are adopting this practice now. It has just become an uncontrolled free for all.
You suggest, only buy the ones that are not doing this. Most of them are now doing this now, that is the reason for this post.
A person doesn’t know it is going to happen until they install and activate the plugin. Then you have a list of, could be anything up to ten or more plugins, either automatically installed or to be install, on the admin dashboard.
Some will install permanent notifications that you can’t remove to buy other plugins and they are they constantly there every time you open up the plugin admin panel.
In some cases plugins will stop some of the functionality of other plugins. Some plugins are so bad, they leave a lot to be desired.
A case in point: I installed an image gallery plugin lately. To get this to function with all the features there are 31 add-ons. They are suggesting I install an image optimizer plugin as well which is not one of the add-ons.
There is a slideshow add-on included in the 31 add-ons, however, they have a permanent advertisement banner for another slider plugin at the top of their settings admin panel.
I tried to install a free trial of another image gallery plugin before that to try it out, it was simply a nightmare to install. I spent about a week writing to their support, but to no avail.
So I am beginning to wonder is it worth using wordpress open-source software, anymore.
As you say, wordpress has no input or cannot control the supply of plugins or how these developers operate and are prepared to just ignore the people who use it.
But the real question here is: Is the wordpress open source project prepared to let these plugin developers destroy wordpress? Do you think it is infallible?
