I tried the method Katarina8890 mentioned and it worked but there is one problem:
If the left sidebar is collapsed (in mobile view), the box is too big (overlaps the main content) and expanding the sidebar doesn’t work.

thank your for your reply.
Take for instance this page:
http://wptest.herderschule.eu/infrastruktur/gebaeudeausstattung/gebaeude-c/genlabor/–> it is Level 4: Infrastruktur (L1)->Gebaeudeausstattung (L2) -> Gebaeude C (L3) -> Genlabor (L4)
–> You can’t see the menu item for this page in the left sidebar, even if you are on the parent page “Gebaeude C” (http://wptest.herderschule.eu/infrastruktur/gebaeudeausstattung/gebaeude-c/) and thus you can’t select it in the child menu.
We want to trim down on those “deep” link structures but for some pages it is necessary. (see also: http://wptest.herderschule.eu/schulprogramm-2/profil/leitbild/feedbackkultur/ )
We could implement a workaround by creating custom menus for those , but those would look differently and I really like the automatic creation of the child menu functionality…Thanks in advance!

could anybody help me with that problem?Is it just impossible to show the Level 4-Entries in Child Menu? Do I have to change some .php-Files?

I fiddled around with the css and found a sufficient/good solution!
