In reply to: [Shopify Connect for WooCommerce] Add to cart not workingFor what it’s worth: if you need/want to refresh the cache of a post on Facebbok, you can also do that from https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ — enter the URL of your WordPress post, and then click “fetch new scrape information”
@lainPurdie: glad things are how you expect them now 🙂
@miri can you try going to https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=applications, removing the WordPress app, and then trying to connect again from your site?
Thanks for the additional details @lainPurdie. You helped me identify a bug that only affected some Jetpack sites. I’ve implemented a fix for it. Future posts should include the larger featured image you are used to.
@lainPurdie: Hi and thanks for the additional feedback 🙂
The main changes that were deployed yesterday were non-visual, behind-the-scenes technical performance and reliability improvements. As part of that we did improve some of the visuals, but they were mostly minor changes. As with most changes, there will be minor quirks that need to be worked out. That’s what were doing now.
As you can see we just fixed the main annoyance here with regards to the custom message.
If you have any further pain points with Publicize, please let us know. We’re here to help and want to improve the service.
Best
I’ve pushed out a change on the server side (no update to Jetpack required).
For Facebook posts, we now send the custom message (along with the URL) without the excerpt, if a custom message is set. We still send an excerpt if no custom message is set.
I hope that this is more in line with what you’re expecting. We are still planning to add the customization/template feature as suggested earlier, but that will require additional development time, and I don’t have an ETA for that right now.
@miri, thanks for reporting the bug with the black bars around images that are not too small. I’ve filed the bug report and we’ll investigate it further.
We add black borders when the photo would otherwise not conform to Facebook’s size requirements and would be rejected.
Thanks for your feedback so far. It’s appreciated and helps us guide the service towards the right decisions.
Having the ability to customize using template(s) is something that has been suggested before and that we will implement eventually. Unfortunately I don’t have an ETA for that at the moment.
You can follow along or provide additional feedback here: https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/261
I agree with you that we should be using your custom description — even if we did add additional content from the post. I’ll push out an improvement shortly.
This is part of a set of intentional changes we released for Publicize yesterday. The changes are server-side so not as part of Jetpack update. Re-connecting your connections will not have any effect.
We’d be happy to take your opinions into account for further improving the service and how your posts are shared on different social networks.
Can you help me understand why the longer format is not desirable for posts shared on Facebook? Many users have expressed to us that they’d like to have more of their post view-able directly on Facebook.
Thanks for sharing your feedback 🙂
@miri you specifically mentioned using Facebook to cross-post to Twitter — is there a reason why you don’t use Publicize to directly publish to Twitter? The Publicize feature formats things different for different social networks so using it to post to Twitter directly will yield a cleaner tweet than doing something different.
