Mine is doing the same thing: twenty twenty-five with no choice in settings -> reading. Same as the OP. Looking through the history of this topic, has existed without being addressed by WP for some time. I have cleared my site cache(s); cleared my browser history, cache and cookies (Safari), to no avail. Nothing seems to repair the issue.
