W3TC did this to me, too, when I updated my CDN settings.
It’s really bad that the default settings for this can seriously break websites. The default settings should be a safe mode.
Here is another example. This time the post was published and the plug-in generated the link… the post links to itself instead of the forum post. http://thelonegamers.com/planetside-2-war-correspondent-episode-6/
It also did not generate a topic and instead generated this post (since deleted): http://thelonegamers.com/planetside-2-war-correspondent-episode-6-2/
Update: I’ve used the plugin Regenerate Thumbnails and it seems to have fixed the issue although I don’t know if that was the “best practice” to fix it.
