I did indeed backup what I could through ftp.
But I was not sure about one thing and could not find it on the internet either. And while reading your comment it still isnt completely clear to me.
1. Is all the post data stored in wp-content?
2. And are you saying that if i delete wordpress and upload the new 3.4.2 to the same database, all the post data is still there?
I think thats what you are saying. But just to make sure.

quick fix, download latest version of WordPress files unzip and upload all file through ftp. if its ask to replace replace all.it will solve your problem.
-If you do that you lose your files
Dont forget to keep backup
-You cant backup if you get this error. Because you cant open wp-admin.
I btw have the same error and dont have godaddy hosting. I use hostgator.
