I encounter this error for FTP backup. In log it says:

[30-Bře-2013 03:10:43] WARNING: ftp_delete() [<a href='function.ftp-delete'>function.ftp-delete</a>]: Delete operation failed.
[30-Bře-2013 03:10:43] ERROR: Cannot delete "johnny-na-cestach/backwpup_wp_instalace_2013-03-17_22-16-48.tar.gz" on FTP server!
It looks like bad interpreting of PHP [ < a href=’function.ftp-delete’>function.ftp-delete ].

And please, developers of this plugin, prepare 1.2 version with this bug officially fixed.
