I selected a static page and still no changes.
Ok I did not. I followed http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Pages#Examples_of_Pages_and_Templates on how to create a template. I took

/*
Template Name: Home
*/
?>
and the index.php and created a new home.php.
I selected the Home template I created and still no change. I’m probably missing someone in between.
