A follow up:
Prior to this version I had been able to use this as my openID(using google):
http://www.google.com/profiles/mygoogleaccount
This no longer works. However, if I log into my wordpress dashboard and add this other google openID endpoint:
https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id
It will obtain a unique ID and then you just have to enter that string and be logged into google and it will work. However, I’m now stuck with my username being the non-working google OpenID, http://www.google.com-profiles-mygoogleaccount
Also, I tried another OpenID provider and it works, so this seems like it might be a google problem.
