In reply to: Opinions on porting a very old site manuallyHi,
Apologies for this delayed response… unexpected hospital stay here.
I’ve gone over your links several times, I sincerely appreciate you listing these. Looking over my old (current) site, I’m thinking this is going to be a manual job unfortunately. I’ve had to do something similar previously with an ancient version of OpenCart to a more contemporary one, that job had over 2K products with images, descriptions and links. It sort of worked but I had to to so much manual tidying up, I scrapped it and started from scratch, one product at a time. Ugly work (repetitive), but a very clean site at the end of the process.
I know, very different software but having read up a bit on both your suggestions and looking at the duct tape and wire I’ve applied to my current WP site to keep it going, I’m getting that same sort of feel, like I have to just suck it up and rebuild from scratch. Couple of monitors, lot of coffee and copy and pasting.
To expand on my neanderthal process (I am pretty old as well!) I’m actually going to create a whole new site on a Reseller account and rebuild the entire new / duplicate site under a different name with a nofollow / noindex idea, basically hide it until it’s ready, then do the switchover when the new site is done with the same post paths to hopefully not lose SEO rankings, as mine are currently pretty good. Having not done anything new in WordPress for years, just living off old themes, this is going to be a whopping learning curve I’m afraid.
Sorry for going on a bit here… pain meds from the docs making me a bit chatty.
Anyway I do very much appreciate you’re responding to my question. Though I’ll be doing it the older way, your links did help me with this decision.
John
Thanks for the quick response here! Again, I’m just very happy it’s not hanging, love this plugin. On the visual of how the optimization is completed in steps… it’s just a nice thing when they tick off in sequence from bottom to top. “Feels” more solid, if that makes sense. In any case, thanks for your work on this plugin!
John
Just updated to version 4.2.4 and the hanging is gone, thank you!
The check boxes used to show as completed from bottom to top, now they all show as busy / spinning until the top optimization “Optimize database tables” finished, then they all show as completed. Just a bit different way to display now, but overall time for complete optimization seems about the same as it did in the 4.2.2 version.
Just wanted top pop back here and say thank you for your work on this, it’s appreciated.
John
No problem here, thank you for being so responsive on this.
I’m sure this will get fixed if it happens to enough folks. Glad the roll back worked for you too!
For the moment, I rolled back to WP-Optimize 4.2.2, and it’s fine.
Same here except on mine it’s hanging on:
Optimized table: wp_xsg_sitemap_meta
Not quite sure what to do.

In reply to: Build New Site… Not Sandboxed or Plugin?OK, thanks again James. I think this will come later but to me this big sandbox question has been answered, and thank you for that.

In reply to: Build New Site… Not Sandboxed or Plugin? Thanks for the response… it is weird that I’ve not see this mentioned anywhere. Ok, I feel better about this now.
One thing… when you say “attach the domain to the directory in your hosting account”, not quite sure what that means exactly? I’m using a Reseller program on this new host, so I have pretty good access to things. Once I change the name of the new site from its temp to its permanent name, won’t this be reflected in my hosting / Reseller / WHM area?
Thanks again!

Hi,
I have to admit I don’t know where the PHP error logs are located. I did just log on to my cPanel and see these general errors, but I don’t think this is what you meant? I am running a very old theme and PHP 7.3.

Same here, same error on WordPress 5.4.1.
Hate to have to change plugins, will wait a little while longer for an update.
Great, looking forward to getting back to NextGen, thanks again!
Thanks for the response! I might give NextGen another try on your experience.

In reply to: [NextCellent Gallery - NextGEN Legacy] Pre-NextCellent Install Question(s)I thought I remembered hearing somewhere that a plugin can add db tables w/ permission, but uninstalling through the Dashboard can’t remove tables. That being said, I took your advice and backed up the NextGEN plugin folder via FTP, then deleted it from the server.
Ran WPDBSpringClean and WP-Optimize, cleared the cache and all looks good!
This is the first time in a long time that the Plugins section of my dash doesn’t have an update notice next to it! Nice.

In reply to: [NextCellent Gallery - NextGEN Legacy] Pre-NextCellent Install Question(s)I think from reading your posts here you’re definitely in a higher level hunt-and-peck class than me 🙂
My last question in this thread if I may… do you think there’s any reason at all to keep the NextGEN 1.9.13 plugin installed? Of course it and all of it’s associated files appear deactivated in the “Edit Plugins” area. Just wanted to make sure NextCellent doesn’t use any leftover, and not clearly visible, remnants of the original NextGEN plugin prior to deleting NextGEN altogether.
