  • Thanks @urkekg – Email sent. Both sites are development sites and are not available to access from the outside internet.

    Thanks for the update Aleksandar.

I’ve updated two different test systems with version 3.0.0 – both have been stuck on ‘Loading stock data…’ for about 30 minutes now.

@urkekg alpha4 is working on my local production environment. One quick thing I noticed – number format changes don’t save and revert back to default setting.

@urkekg no worries, bug testing is part of the process 🙂 php version on my end is 5.5 / WordPress 4.8.2. Will give alpha4 a try here soon and will report back. Thank you!

Hello Aleksandar, and thanks for the update and the info.

Just tried out alpha3, site throws an error msg:

Fatal error: Using $this when not in object context in ..\wp-content\plugins\stock-ticker-0.2.99-alpha3\stock-ticker.php on line 280

Aleksander, great job so far! I currently have this handling close to 30 different stock quotes – takes about a minute to load all of them, but it does load and display everything.

I’ve noticed that the custom names setting no longer works. Example:

    .DJI;DJI
    .INX;S&P 500
    .IXIC;NASDAQ

… instead of .IXIC displaying NASDAQ, it just displays .IXIC on the ticker, etc. Am I missing something, or has this functionality not been addressed yet with this alpha version?

Aleksander, looking forward to a solution and an updated version of your stock ticker plug-in. Good luck!

Hi again! Finally had a chance to implement your stock ticker with the auto refresh option. Works like a charm, good job. No issues I’ve seen on wordpress 4.5.3

Relevad, thank you very much, that did the trick.

Hi Aleksandar, thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, I was speaking of the ticker/quotes itself updating without refreshing the rest of the page. I tried using a plugin called WP Auto Reload Widgets to do this before posting here, but it just blanks out the ticker on the first refresh (already tested this with no other plugins active, several different themes including base themes).

If you find time to implement, please let me know. I’d like to donate to compensate for your time.

Hi Relevad, thanks for the quick response.

I did try that exact plugin you referenced before posting here. On the very first refresh, the ticker disappears. No errors pop up when inspecting the element and it still runs, so I’m not entirely sure why it’s happening. I have a test site up at https://www.hardfought.org/test if you want to take a look. Stock ticker is in the footer, refresh through the auto reload widget is 10 seconds. I also tried this with a couple default themes (twentyfifteen, twentyfourteen, etc) with no other plugins active, same behavior.

I don’t host my website through Comcast. I use Comcast for my home internet provider.

Here’s why all of Comcasts dynamic range IP address blocks are on spamhaus’s PBL list (quote from spamhaus’s FAQ):

The first thing to know is: THE PBL IS NOT A BLACKLIST. You are not listed for spamming or for anything you have done. The PBL is simply a list of all of the world’s dynamic IP space, i.e: IP ranges normally assigned to ISP broadband customers (DSL, DHCP, PPP, cable, dialup). It is perfectly normal for dynamic IP addresses to be listed on the PBL. In fact all dynamic IP addresses in the world should be on the PBL. Even static IPs which do not send mail should be listed in the PBL.

And it appears all of the other spam sites that your plugin checks against have this same list in their database. But for whatever reason, whether it’s the spam sites or your script, these dynamic IP spaces are being viewed as a source of spam and subsequently being blocked. So that leads me to believe that this problem isn’t just for Comcast users, but for any well known ISP. You’re talking millions of users that could be affected.

As I stated in my initial post, I went through one by one commenting out each site in the array block, and every single site came back saying my IP address was blocked w/ the same error code (153,2,24).

I suggest having a real good look at what databases your plugin checks against – it’s possible you’re blocking a huge number of legitimate users along with the spam bots. Funny enough, my IP address did NOT show up at http://www.StopForumSpam.com. Perhaps that site only blocks known spammers IP addresses and/or known IP spaces and doesnt list every well known ISP’s dynamic IP spaces.

I’d like to see some control over how fast or slow the images in the header change as well. Maybe something for the next version hopefully?

By the way, great little plugin, love it.
