Not sure this will help your problem but I experienced the same problem when I upgraded today.
(seems people are having different problems but mine was like yours…I had a very basic editor in view but I could not get to the font or font sizes anymore along with a few other options)
After searching all over the net and pulling my hair out I read something about “double clicking” and it struck a nerve.
So I headed over to my page/post editor and double clicked on the “box” with lots of dots in it (displays when you are in visual mode)…actually called the Toggle Toolbar! Double clicked that and viola…my editor is back!!
I never have my editor hidden so I had forgotten about this button (I had used it in the past)…I guess upgrading triggered it to close!
