I think that there are other CSS style sheets other than the one you can access via WordPress.

a fixed width may work, but i want to know for sure before i make any drastic changes to the website. The link to the website is:

when you zoom in and out of the page, all of the posts re-organize and the structure of the home page changes.

This is also the case when you view the website in a screen with different sizes/resolution.
