I had a similar problem a long time ago.
Do you have a caching plugin installed? you may need to clear its cache.
I have since removed that plugin as I didn’t find it was needed for my site
I’ve used the app in the past and have never needed a wordpress.com account.
On iOS I can choose a link at the bottom to Login by entering me website address.
I am unsure if Android version is different but i suspect it would have something similar
