Ah, but you see, I did a reinstall immediately so all that was overwritten. THeir change enabled me to do the reinstall and that’s what I wanted. I’m kosher now.

Very good. Did it. THis is their reply:
If interested, the fix is to change line 83 of class-http.php, from true to false

    ‘sslverify’ => false,

WordPress changed the SSL cert if uses and this caused some versions of the SSL libraries which were more strict to not accept the new cert.

I got the reinstall accomplished, but not the plugin problem. Onwards.
    Thanks.

I have updated wordpress to 3.8, updated my theme to twentyfourteen, I have only nextgen active and 4 of my page work while on 4 I still get a single column AND I don’t have those lovely next and close buttons.
I would do a bug report, but I have no idea how to tell you to recreate what I’ve done. THe site is http://kkingart.com. Sets, New Stuff, Objects, and Environments are single columns. Motion Graphics-Stills, Painting and DRawing, work fine, Some issues with Rudolph House and Made In Jersey, but they show the gallery associated with them.
I can send you screen shots of what I’m doing in WP, if that would help.

Thank you for answering. It didn’t work. I’m trying a different plugin first.

Same problem with Firefox I think since 1.5. I’ve been using 1.4 for quite a while because of this.

    THanks.

I cleaned out my site using ftp. Found a few things out of place etc.
THen I used your HOLD suggestion, which got me into the site for further cleanup. Then I used the hold on each of the plugin folders (taking it off the main folder)trying to figure out which was causing problems with this new upgrade. My results were mixed. One caused a problem with the login, one caused a problem with seeing the site after the login. Nothing is resolved.

THe really odd thing was that I activated the old nextgen from the dashboard to get it working. Then I went back to ftp and took the HOLD off the folder and it quit working om the website. So I have to leave the HOLD on the folder with it activated through the dashboard.

I’m happy to learn about this, but the site is still wanky and I’ve run out of time for this weekend.
Thanks for your help. I’ll probably be back next weekend to completely solve these conflicts.

I did try another browser last night: Safari. Same cookie bs even though I’ve never set up safari for anything and it’s on its out-of-the-box settings.
I only got a blank login page again when I took out the cookie part of the login file so I put it back.
I had my browser on do not follow/don’t keep history when I was working in the dashboard/admin area earlier in the evening. In fact I was in and out of it many times after I put in the new version of WordPress.

My theme is twentyten. I don’t think you can get more basic than that. My site is extremely simple. Just images. I was mucking with the plugins last night trying to get their new versions to work, but I have so little patience for this stuff that I reinstalled the old ones until I had the time to really look over the new ones.

I appreciate all this help, but please understand it was working fine most of last night, it’s been working for years. I would love to get in and shut down all the plugins, but I can’t because I can’t login. THat’s what I’m trying to solve.

THe first time it tried i copied and pasted the code from the email, which was incorrect. Now I have tried this code in a couple of places and I still get the cookie error.

    THanks for replying so quickly
