Just in case someone else hits the same issue, there was a hardening switch that explicitly disabled XML-RPC in the plugin settings. Turning it off fixed the issue without disabling the whole plugin.
Thanks @lastsplash for offering help. It turned out that it was Really Simple Security plugin that caused the problem. After disabling it the XML-RPC started working again. I will keep the plugin disabled for now and evaluate later why I needed it in the first place and if I still need it.
This actually the settings that I have. I even tried allowing XML-RPC for all IPs. Neither setting helped at all. However, for some reason the error message from Jetpack debug page changed to ‘XML-RPC is not responding correctly ( 200 )’ without me doing anything. If I try xmlrpc.php with browser I get 200 and an empty page. I did add my own IP to the list to be able to test this. So it seems the XML-RPC is allowed but for some reason it does not return the expected value.
Thanks @bruceallen! I edited the file as you suggested and this seems to have fixed the problem. I waited a few days just to be sure and the activity log shows no url changes anymore. I will make a note to remember this next time.
Thanks. That solved the problem.
I noticed that if I go to WordPress.com from my Jetpack dashboard using browser I can see two sites. One is http://jasittenmatkaan.fi and the other is https://jasittenmatkaan.fi. I can hide the http one but that does no good. I don’t know how I ended up with this kind of setup but this is most likely the root cause. I cannot find a way to remove the http version of the site from my sites in WordPress.com. Can you help me with this?
I may have found the problem. As I signed out and back in again on the mobile app, I think I accidentally added my site again. I did not realize there was two different paths to sign in untill it was too late. So this must be the reason my site shows twice. Now I can’t see any stats or activity log on my mobile app. I also get ‘duplicate site detected’ error when I log in. Is there a way for me to fix this myself?
I added similar redirect for the IP as well and now my activity log looks clean. The only problem is that the WordPress mobile app shows I have two sites but they are both the same. So some duplicate issue still exists. But that does not seem to cause any real problems. Thanks for your help.
Ok, thanks. I added the redict and that removed one of the three url notifications that keep popping up. But I still get the same notifications for both the url and the IP. I didn’t notice this at first but actually there are same notifications for both the site url and the home url. So at first the site url and home url are set to the IP and then to the url. And this keeps on repeating over and over again.
