Re: 1. — I have put checkmarks on:
a. Use the Notification message instead of the Data message
b. In the Android notification payload add the message field

I am using WPHC and it works fine as far as I can tell.

Re: 2. — Hooks?… Is it possible to achieve what I am asking?

Was: No JS Errors, Blacklist.
Switched to: Forced (default), Whitelist, and it seems to work fine for now.
