You should be able to use this plugin and narrow the list being shown to one post: http://ww.wp.xz.cn/extend/plugins/recent-posts/installation/
However, this will always link to the previous post, regardless of category. I’m still trying to find a way to link to a previous post within a single category!
Do you know if this allows linking to the previous post in the same category?
