    Hi Dan – so it’s been 4 days since I manually installed the 3.99b version of Qwizcards on my staging site and the setting for “manual-only check/save” is still going strong! So I decided to try it on the production site a couple of days ago, and it’s still good there, too! I can report again after a full week, if you like. But this is a very encouraging sign!

    Hi Dan – thanks so much for taking the time to work on this! I’ve installed the 3.99b version manually on the staging site and checked the box on for “manual-only check/save”. I’ll give it some time and report back in a few days if it hasn’t reverted back to an unchecked box. Thank you again!

    Hi Dan. So after logging into both my staging and production sites today, it turns out that both had reverted back to the unchecked “manual-only check/save” in the Qwizcards settings. And actually, only about an hour after I had disabled auto-updating of plugins on the staging site, it still reverted back. I use the saving in the dashboard quite a lot and it would be best if I didn’t have to always check the Qwizcards settings before doing so. Would it be possible to look into that second option you suggested of having the settings saved elsewhere? Sorry this is such a pain!

    Hi Dan – thanks for the quick response! Since I’m the only one you know that has this problem, I’m thinking of running a little test. The server I’m on has a control panel that isn’t the typical C-Panel, and I’m wondering if maybe that has something to do with it. Twice a week, plugins are automatically updated by the server, and I’m wondering if it’s doing something that triggers the settings in Qwizcards to fall back to default somehow. I have a staging site, so I’m setting that NOT to auto-update plugins and I’m leaving the production site as is. So if the production site ends up switching back and the staging one doesn’t, we’ll have a bit more to go on in our search for a solution. Maybe it’ll turn up nothing, but I figured it’s worth a shot! I’ll give it some time to update some common plugins – maybe it’s a certain other plugin whose updates are causing this? I don’t know, but I’ll update you with what I find.

    Hi Dan – just a quick note. The saving issue has returned. I checked the Qwizcards settings and the box I had checked (turned on) for “Manual-only check/save” was now unchecked. I’m thinking maybe after updating other plugins, this gets unchecked for some reason? I know I didn’t change it. Very strange!

    Hi Dan,

    That did the trick! Thank you so much for such a quick and bang-on response. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly you can zero in on the root causes of any errors. Thanks again!

    Hi Dan – good news! I just checked the error logs today and found nothing at all. Also, the database entries I showed in my last post have remained the same:

    qwiz_suggestions_db_table_update = “ok”

    qwiz_textentry_suggestions_ver = “3.1”

    Now I’m fairly certain that I added the 3.1 manually some time ago, and it seems to have stuck. Hopefully that’s ok to do!

    This latest qwizcards update seems to be working without giving any errors, so many many thanks for all your hard work on this through what must have been some puzzling behaviors. Great plugin, Dan, and you give A+ support. Thank you again!

    Thank you again, Dan, for putting so much time into this. It’s really appreciated!

    I installed version 3.94 yesterday and so far, no errors in the logs! And here’s what I see in the database entries (it’s the version number 3.1 we’re looking to be there, right?):

    Is there anything else I should look for? Maybe change a setting and see if it takes over a few days?

    Hi Dan – any news on a possible update for Qwizcards? It’s a great plugin and it still works well. But I’m still getting the same repeating errors shown below. Is there anything else I can provide to help you out with this? I want to help however I can!

    Hi Dan,

    To update you on the situation, it seems the PHP max out I experienced was a server issue that has now been resolved – my apologies! So after installing your latest version (3.93), I received the PHP errors I mentioned above that were more compact but repeating for every page that is loaded on the site. Then I noticed that in the Qwizcards settings, the “default for use_dict” and “default for use_terms” were both set to true. When all this started, I had them both set to false, then I changed the use_dict one to true, just to see if WordPress would retain the setting, which it did. But I think I mentioned before that I deleted the dictionary when I first installed the plugin to save server space. So I now set both to false, and I don’t currently get error messages when loading a page. But since this has been an intermittent issue, I’ll wait a few days to see if anything recurs and update you here. In the meantime, I thought I’d let you know what the latest version seems to be doing. As always, thanks for all your help in trying to figure this out!

    Hi Dan! Thanks for the updated version. What happened now is that it seems that every time a user loads a page, I’ll get the errors below over and over again, and it’s been so many times that it maxed out the PHP memory and made it so that no one could log into the site! So I’ve had to disable Qwizcards for the time being – that returned memory to the site and now I can log in again. Thanks for your continued help on this. Anyway, here are the errors I’m getting, including the ones for the PHP memory, in case it may be helpful.

    Hi Dan – many thanks for putting time into this issue and offering new updates for it. I installed version 3.93 a couple of days ago, and when I load a page on the site, I’m now seeing the errors below repeated over and over again in the PHP logs, but I have no idea what it means. Please let me know.

    Hi Dan – so it’s been a number of days since I changed a setting in Qwizcards, and I checked today and it had kept the setting I changed for “Default for use_dict”, which I had manually set to “true” a few days ago. But I still see the same errors in the PHP log, but strangely, it seems to always occur at the same time of day. I don’t know if that is significant, but I thought I should mention it.

    I can go through the 3 steps you mentioned above to install the beta version of Qwizcards if you like, then send you a sample of the errors. Would that help at this point?

    Thread Starter kthoven

    (@kthoven)

    Hi Dan! So in the Qwizcards settings page, I’ve set “use English dictionary” to true. I don’t recall ever changing anything, so we’ll give that a whirl. I saved the changes and am now just waiting for any errors. None have yet shown up, and I went to a page with Qwizcards on it and flipped through a few cards, refreshed the page, then logged out. Nothing in the error log. Very strange how it seems to be such an intermittent error. Let’s hope this time it stays away for good. If not, I can try your more involved steps to retrieve more diagnostic info for you, no problem. Thanks for all your help!
