  • So I agree that if you’re editing a theme, then you should create a child theme. Reason: when you go to update your theme, every modification you make (including the one I am about to provide you) will be rewritten and you’ll have to do it again. I suggest either creating a child theme or adding a plugin like JetPack’s Custom CSS to add this code to your style sheet:

    .main-navigation li ul li a {
    color: white
    }

    This should solve your problem with “Services in a drop down menu”

    Go to Appearance > Menus

    Under the Edit Menus tab, select the Menu that is being used as your primary navigation from drop down menu. Click Select.

    Click “Links” on the left sidebar, and fill in these properties:
    URL: http://www.vickymakeups.com/services
    Link Text: Services

    Click “Add to Menu”

    Under “Menu Structure”, drag each service and drop it under services. It is done correctly if the service is indented/tabbed underneath Service. Example:

    Services
        Waxing
        Facial

    After dragging and dropping each service under the new Services menu item, click “Save Menu”.

    Please note, that in creating the Services link, you will create a dead link. If you want to remedy this, just create a page called services and make sure that permalink is the url above.

    To make text smaller or look different in general, you will need to edit in the stylesheet. I don’t recommend doing this unless you have proficient knowledge with CSS, otherwise you could ruin your entire website.

    Before I can answer how to “make it smaller” I need to know what you mean.

    With WordPress you can create just about anything you want.

    If you don’t want a blog or visitor login information on it, you can do that. There are numerous sites out there, especially for businesses, that look just like normal websites – but they are built with this platform.

    As to whether you are looking at the wrong themes or templates, that really comes down to your skill level with WordPress. If you’re looking for something that is ready-to-go you may have to pay for it. If you’re looking for something to build into what you want, there are thousands of themes to choose from.

    Before you choose, however, make sure to do your research. Many times free themes are free because they have back end coding that does stuff you don’t want. If you want free, I would highly suggest researching developers, choose a reputable one and use one of their free themes.
