Figured it out.. For some reason by default there were some categories being blocked in the Big City blog options menu. I deleted them and saved which solved the issue.

Also to simplify. I have 3 categories and I add a new post. I can add the post to category 1 and it will show up on the homepage but if I add the post to category 2 it wont show up on the homepage?
