Personally, I think that’s the wrong decision, but heck, it’s your product.
I’ll just make a note in my installation procedures to always update the To: field whenever I do a Contact Form 7 installation. That way we’ll both be happy 🙂

Great. So would you consider using it as the default entry for the To: field in the _mail template? Then none of we users would have to worry about this issue in the future? Len

    Could I make a suggestion 🙂

You could invent a new template code, perhaps [ site_admin_email_address ] and place that in the To: field of the CF7 Mail Template. You could substitute this token for the actual email address at the same time as all the other template fields are being processed.

This would mean that the CF7 forms would continue to work after the site’s admin email address is changed. But nothing would prevent an experienced and capable user of replaceing the [ site_admin_email_address ] code with an ACTUAL email address if they wanted to use something specific. They would have to know what they are doing to accomplish that, and if so, then they would presumably be aware of the need to change it should that hard-coded email address go defunct.

    What do you think?

Yes I know. But you miss my point, which is that there’s no reason for the average punter to twig to having to do that. It’s entirely reasonable for them to change their blog’s admin email and expect things to just keep working. Put yourself in their shoes and surely you’ll see what I mean😅

This what I was intending to raise as a bug:

I recently changed the “Administration Email Address” for several of my travel blogs, because my old email provider shut down. Having done this, I didn’t realise that Contact Form 7 would continue to use the old address, which it presumably captured when installed and first initialised. The user has no idea that Contact Form 7 is still using the old address and, as was the case for me, all the Contact Form 7 emails that folks submitted, fell on deaf ears. Contact Form displays a “Success” message, but the call to wp_mail() results in failure.

My view is that this is a bug. After delving into this, I now realise that I can Edit the form, go to the Mail tab, and change the From: address. But the user has now way of knowing that this is required.

    What do you think?

I believe I have found a Contact Form 7 Bug. How do I submit a bug report?
