Hi Chris,
Was able to install but was still having some 500 issues.
took a look at the .htaccess file and found lots of remaining entries from BPS-Pro. Removed those and everything is working perfectly now.
Also, upgraded to latest version of your plugin!
Thanks for all your help.
Lisa
ok. i downloaded the zip file for 1.25.5
but i just updated all of my sidebars to use the new “view” widget. does this work in 1.25.5?
also, to install the older version, what would be the process? i just don’t want to delete all of my testimonials on the site.
thanks,
lisaHi Chris,
sorry to be a pain. But thought you should know this.
When I have your plugin activated:
If I try to install another plugin, for instance, I was installing Sucuri plugin, when I tried to activate it, I would get a white screen/500 error. Then i was unable to access the wp-admin area.
I had to remove the newly installed plugin directory via ftp.
Then I logged back into wp-admin.
if I disabled your plugin, I was able to successfully install a new plugin, activate it and continue to access the wp admin panel.
so, it seems like there still may be an issue with the new update of your plugin.
for now, i have the testimonial plugin disabled.
lisa
thanks chris, for your super quick response on this. i totally appreciate it.
-lisaHi chris,
i just reactivated the plugin and decided to deactivate a security plugin that i had on this wp installation. as soon as i deactivated it, everything worked as it should.
it was an older security plugin Bulletproof Security Pro. I think I will probably use a different plugin.
I believe it was 1.25.5
I don’t remember being directed to a welcome screen.
when i had the plugin activated, sometimes i would be able to get to the “add new category” sub menu. but none of the others. …And, when it would let me get to that screen, then in the menu, it would show the submenu item called Old Settings with a Red Exclamation mark.
If i clicked on some other menu item in my Wpress menu, and then went back to testimonials, that exclamation mark would not be there.
Hi Chris,
I did that and still the same. Actually, it’s a little more than what I first thought, I just found.
If I try to access anything under Posts or Pages with the testimonials plugin activated, i get 500 errors/white screen.
as soon as i deactivate the plugin, i can access my posts and pages.
???
LisaThanks Yorman. You have been so very helpful, going above and beyond what I would have imagined. I am truly grateful for your help.
-LisaYorman,
every single plugin is set to 555.
How this happened is a mystery. I am the only one who uses this and I have never changed the file permissions. What “should” the file permissions for the wp-content and wp-content/plugins and the respective folders inside be set to? (setting them to 777 would allow anyone to write to them, correct?)
Hi Yorman,
Thanks for the update. Here’s what I did:
I looked at the permissions for the wp-content (was set to 755) and wp-content/plugins (was set to 555). I changed that one to 755 and was able to sucessfully upload a new plugin.
so then i tried to update an existing plugin. But it failed saying it could not remove the old plugin.
Next, I changed the permissions of those two directories to 777.
I tried deleting the newly uploaded plugin and was successful.
then, I tried to update another existing plugin (actually tried two different plugins that both need updating). Still it returned the error saying it failed because it could not remove the old plugin.
The weird thing is that I never changed directory permissions on my files. The only thing I’ve done in the past month is install the sucuri plugin and then enabled hardening features.
?
LisaHi Yorman,
I tried to install a new plugin, but this failed as well. Message says:
“Could not create directory. /home/beathali/public_html/wp-content/plugins/backupbuddy/”
The wp-content directory also has permissions set to 755.
thanks,
lisaYorman,
I deleted the .htaccess file in the /wp-includes directory. Still, I cannot perform plugin updates. The error says: An error occurred while updating WordPress SEO: Could not remove the old plugin.I looked at the permissions of the wp-content/ folder and it is set to 755.
All of the plugins I’ve installed have been through the WP dashboard and never via ftp.Any ideas on how i can update these plugins?
thank you Yorman. I’ve tried de-activating the Sucuri plugin and trying to update my plugins, (which didn’t work), but I did not delete the /wp-includes/.htaccess file from my server. I will try that and follow the steps you’ve outlined. Thank you for your quick response!
LisaHi Yorman,
thanks for the update. Is there anything I can do now to be able to update my other plugins? since the wp-includes is hardened, I don’t know what to do so that I can update my other plugins. Every time I try, I will get an error because during the update the older files can’t be deleted. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated!
I believe I need to update the plugin to the latest version 1.7.1 as I am also having the problem that is found here:
But, right now, I cannot update any plugins without getting an error telling me the ojlder version of the plugin could not be deleted which I am sure is related to the wp-includes directory being hardened. And I can’t revert the hardening without getting the WP Nonce verification error I listed above.
Please help!
