I figured it out… I needed to turn OFF simplepie when using the shortcode.

Wow! This was exactly what I needed. I knew the answer was in those box-shadows, but nothing I tried was working.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I had this issue on three different sites I had been helping with and it works on all three.

Bless you for helping a newbie! I was, indeed, able to take care of this by adding an index.php file to my child theme and commenting-out the paging information! You rock for your help!
