Turns out the shadow effect I was using was not actually part of the image so it was cut off. Dropped the effect as client did not like it as much as he thought he would.
Thanks! I think I will need to individually edit each image and add a shadow to it.

As to your suggestion, my client desires shadows around the image so I will have to live with the results. I am using WP Image Borders plugin for shadows.
Not sure if I get what you mean about applying shadow to the slideshow – wouldn’t that just shadow the entire container, including the next and previous buttons?
