The problem is now fixed. It involved using a mail plugin to set up the mail server for the site. Thanks so much for your suggestions.

Thank you so much for pointing us in the right direction. You were right on with the mail server. I contacted our hosting co, they opened a ticket and are working on it right now.
I will keep everyone posted as to the status, but in the mean time thanks again. That really helped.
