SOLVED!
Hello again, I could fix this issue.
the source of the problem was my .htaccess file within wp-content folder, where the icons are stored.
Solution:
1. deactivate .htaccess
or what i did:
2. add icons file format (ttf,woff, svg in my case) to the exception list inside .htaccess.
No grey boxes anymore, icons are displayed, problem solved

I checked before with them, found a similar Topic, and the answer from them was to check here in this Forum 🙁
