I am having the same problem.
I also have tested it in Firefox (79.0), Chrome (84.0.4147.125)
I am running WordPress 5.5 on Windows 10 64-bit, on two different computers.

Thank you for posting the solution!
I’m using default style, too.
I am having the same problem.
Slideshow seems to be looking for the images in /wp-content/uploads,
instead of the specified gallery path: /wp-content/gallery/.
[nggallery id=12 class=”shutterset_GalleryName”] still works and finds the files like it should.
What do you mean by “Use default theme”?
