unfortunately that did not solve this. I did some more troubleshooting:

I use a loadbalancer to do SSL offloading and adjusted my wordpress config file to accept this (please read here how i did this: )

Since the update to 1.0.3 i get errors that not all content is loaded securely, and the chrome dev tools state that some aesop items are not loaded via https, but http.

The page at 'https://netscalerrocks.com/wp-admin/' was loaded over HTTPS, but ran insecure content from 'http://netscalerrocks.com/wp-content/plugins/aesop-story-engine/admin/includes/custom-meta-boxes/css/dist/cmb.min.css?ver=3.8.1': this content should also be loaded over HTTPS.

Secondly, and this might be more relevant, i see the following error during load of the window that should show the icons:
