The issue is resolved, it was due to custom code in the theme’s functions file. It is unrelated to content control so we can all make a collective sigh of relief. Thanks for all the help.
We have narrowed it down. When we are using the child theme of Kava the error is there, but when we change to the parent theme of Kava the error goes away. But when I changed to the theme Twenty Twenty before it was still not working.

@mlchaves Once the table prefix in
wp-config.phpwas changed back to the value it should have for the site to work properly, the redirect error got back, so this is certainly an issue that lies in the database.Trying to compare the two files, I suspect it has something to do with $memcached_servers.
I had a talk with my hosting provider. When wp-config.php file is reset to default, content-control is no longer active. @mlchaves Do you have any idea what in content-control might be causing this bug?
Hi @mlchaves thank you for your advice,
I am currently using WPEngine, and I haven’t used File Manager or SFTP before so all help is of course very appreciated! I have tried everything (deleting themes and other plugins) but the pages are still locked behind content control even though the settings are empty.
Could you please help out with this? Thanks!
I tried deleting the plugin on my staging site, but even when the plugin is deleted, the content control restriction is still present on the site.
The only thing I haven’t tried is to delete the plugin, maybe that is the las resort solution?
Hi @mlchaves,
I have followed the guide exactly, I have deactivated all plugins except for content control, I have removed code in functions.php and site.js, I have changed the theme to Twenty Twenty, but still, I cannot see any restrictions set when I access the content control settings page (even though my old restrictions are active on the site), please help.
Hi @mlchaves,
I have deactivated every single plugin except for content control but this error still remains. There are no errors in the console when going to the content control settings page.
Best regards,
Max
Hi @mlchaves I followed your instructions.
First I tried checking the browser console on the content control settings page, but it didn’t output any errors.
Secondly I deactivated all WPML plugins and reactivated them. When I navigated to the content control settings page it was still empty. I tried refreshing a few times and found 2 javascript errors happening, but only sometimes. They are the following:
