    Hi,
Ok, I figured it out. It apparently has to do with the way apache handles https requests when there is no SSL certificate installed on the domain. In that case, apache redirects you to the site with the primary SSL cert on your ip. In this case the primary SSL cert is just the first one to have been added to the IP. So, that spammy looking shopping site is on the same server as me, using the same IP and they just happened to be the first website on that IP to install an SSL cert. Apparently there is no way around this other than to install an SSL cert on my own domain, so thats what I’m going to do. Thanks for taking a look at this.

Yeah, it lasted for over a month, so if it was a glitch, it was a persistent one, but since its gone now, I’m not stressing over it anymore…

    Rene,
You are misunderstanding the issue we were having here. The issue was not with expanding the menu to show the sub-menu items, it was with expanding and shrinking the menu left-to-right.

So, in wordpress 3.1 or earlier, there were little double arrows << in between the sections of the menu (ie, right between comments and appearance), and if you clicked those, it would shrink the menu right to left and remove the words and just have the icons. In wordpress 3.2, there’s now a gray link at the bottom of the menu that says “collapse menu” that does the same thing.

My menu on my site got stuck in the shrunk format, which wasn’t how I wanted it.

Since then, it actually randomly one day started working fine again, so its no longer an issue for me. Why it started working again – I have no idea…

I think you should open a new thread to deal with your issue since its not the same as the issue this thread was started for.

Alright, looks like the email I copied got moderated, so here’s a link to the email:

    Hmm…

I’m having the same problem with the form designer.

I customized a form, trying to remove the First Name and Last Name fields and add a bunch of text (maybe 2 paragraphs) to the form text, then change the colors, backgrounds, border, etc, and it saves changes inconsistently. When I created the form initially, it let me save the changes, but when I went back to edit the form, it won’t let me make changes, and in fact added back in some of the default settings without asking me.

I asked my hosting company about ModSecurity, and they looked through the apache logs and said there were no modsecurity problems, but they did find other problems. I’ve copied the email they sent me below.

Any ideas? I really like this plugin, but I just want it to work consistently…

    Thanks,
    -Matt

Well, if you want the form to appear in your sidebar, you can use one of the sidebar widgets provided. Just go to Appearance > Widgets and play around with them there to see if you can get what you want.

If you want to add the form to a page or post (not the sidebar), then you’ll have to use a shortcode.

The basic shortcode format is [constantcontactap formid=”0″]

You just copy and paste that into the editor on the post or page you want the form to appear. Note that the first form you create gets the formid of 0, but if you create more forms, you’ll have to get the correct formid into the shortcode.

Also, be aware that if you use that shortcode, someone who signs up using the form will be added to all the lists you have in Constant Contact. I’m not 100% clear on the shortcode syntax to only add people to certain lists, so hopefully someone else can chime in and give some additional clarification on that.

    Hope that helps,
    -Matt

Also, it seems like I might be doing more wrong that just the redirect_url, because when I remove that, and just use the following:

    [constantcontactapi formid=”0″ lists=”1,3″]

It still adds the email to all my lists, not just lists 1 and 3…

Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong? Thanks!

So, any more ideas on stuff I could look for?

Ok, just did a few more tests:

    1) Deleted the original problem hosting account, recreated it, installed 3.1.2 again, and same problem still exists.

    2) Took another domain that I had pointing to my server, but hadn’t done anything yet for, created an account for that domain, installed 3.1.2, and no problem.

It seems to be something specific about that domain. Any ideas of what else I should check for?

    Hmmm… Curious…

I just did a little more testing – first I tried installing 3.1.1, 3.1, and 3.05 in subdirectories in that same hosting account. All had the same menu problem.

That hosting account is actually just a sub-account from a master reseller account I have. I just created that sub account within the last couple weeks. So, I went into one of my other sub-accounts that is several years old and tried installing 3.1.2, and the menu is not collapsed by default the first time I log into it, and furthermore if I switch it to collapsed it stays collapsed, and if I switch it back to expanded, it stays expanded.

These two hosting accounts are on the same server, under the same master reseller account. So, I’m not sure why it seems to be having this problem… I’m going to try deleting the hosting account that is having the problems and recreating it to see if that will fix it.

I’d like to second this problem – I just did a fresh install of the latest version of WP (3.1.2) using Installatron, on a brand new never used domain/hosting account, and can’t get the left nav menu to stay open. I didn’t make any changes to plugins, pages, or anything – it was the first thing I tried after logging in for the first time.

I can open the menu up by clicking the >> arrows, but then when I click on one of the options, it loads the next page with the menu collapsed. So, it doesn’t “stick”.

I’m running Mac OSX 10.5.8, and I tried it in FF 3.6.17, Chrome 11.0.696.68, and Safari 5.0.4 (5533.20.27).

I teach a lot of computer newbies how to use WP for their businesses, and being able to have that nav menu stay open would be very helpful for them, as they’re already pretty overwhelmed by the whole thing, so having clearly written labels would definitely make it easier…
