In reply to: error trying to upgrade to wordpress 3.4.1Just finished updating MySQL with 1and1 phone tech support. Took over two hours, but now works. Had to create a new MySQL 5 database on the 1and1 control panel, export the old one, inport the new one, delete the first three or four lines in the file, the edit the wp-config.php file with the new database name, host, location, and password.
My website still looks funky and I’m guessing that is the theme, so maybe I need to change that?
Thanks,

In reply to: error trying to upgrade to wordpress 3.4.1I just noticed that Wordpad named the .htaccess file .htaccess.txt, so I renamed it .htaccess and now I get this message with a WordPress logo at the top of the page:
You cannot update because WordPress 3.4.1 requires MySQL version 5.0 or higher. You are running version 4.0.27.
I’ll call 1and1 since their server apparently does not have MySQL 5 as their info said.
I’ll post when I know more.
Thanks

In reply to: error trying to upgrade to wordpress 3.4.1I upgraded again and added the .htaccess file and am still getting the same message when I try to open the dashboard page. When I try to open the website I get a similar message, but different file and different line:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /homepages/8/d271704611/htdocs/Silvertip_Musings/wp-includes/option.php on line 225
As I recall previously I got the same message at both locations, so maybe something has changed. Does this give any clue about what to try next?
Thanks,

In reply to: error trying to upgrade to wordpress 3.4.1I’ll try again.
I followed the upgrade to 3.4.1 instructions the previous upgrade attempts. I just got a reply from 1and1 that referred to soem FAQs and they list that both PHJP4 and PHP 5 are available,a nd aoparently an .htaccess file is needed to activate PHP5. I’ll try to figure that out and upgrade again tonight. I didn’t find any indication on how to activate MySQL 5, which their list says they have.
My theme is Simple Balance 2.2.1 and was installed with the site in 2009. I couldn’t find any info on the net about whether it has an update or if it conflicts with WP 3.4.1.
Thanks for all the help.
I’ll post tonight (hopefully) with the results of my next attempt to upgrade.
