INBOX is not defined by default.So, switched the UID to MBOX delivery in /var/spool/mail/UID
Explicitly set INBOX in ~/.profileAnd still reporting as 0 emails to process.
I am using a self administered mail server and can make any reasonable changes. ie switching IMAP servers would give me pause.

In reply to: Security Alerts via email (yes again)catacaustic, I did find the Wordfence plugin. It’s now a part of all my installs.
My original request is for an email alert mechanism, a mailing list comes to mind, that users can opt into. I suspect for some users choosing and installing another plugin is a bit of a burden. Opting in to a mailing list is a light burden and not disruptive to the workflow.
