In reply to: Making CSS editable…Okay, just for starters…I need someone to answer this question. Does it matter if you upload files via fttp by yourself or if you upload files using wordpress options? Because from what I understand- it doesn’t matter how your files get into your server, but what is in your server is what you get… And I just don’t understand how this can be true when I don’t have what is coming up as my blog even in my server!- The CSS I edited tells it to look quite different so I would know if it was working or not. Plus, I even checked the ONLY style.css file in the correct folder (WordPress/wp-content/themes/2Exquisite/style.css (and other necessary theme files). What is going on??? I have been asking questions on the forum for about 3 weeks now, and I still don’t get how to fix my problem. I am sorry that I am new to wordpress….Please help.

In reply to: Making CSS editable…Then your css did change when you edited it. There’s no upload/download when you edit files through the WordPress Editor. All changes are actually carried out on the relevant files on the server.
I am not sure what you mean by that. The only style.css file that I have on my server in the correct folder marked with the theme’s name is the version I edited. It would make the page look completely different than it does now, so it is obvious that it is not working for whatever reason. I understand that the files that are on my server should be controlling what the page looks like. That is why I am so confused.
Hmm…I don’t know a lot about plug-ins. Do you think that is my problem? I would just as soon not use the wp editor if I can upload my files directly to my server and get the same result- which seems to be the case. Except of course, it won’t work for me. 🙁

In reply to: Making CSS editable…No, only the new (edited) file is in the theme’s folder on my server.

In reply to: Making CSS editable…Hmmm… well here is the thing: the new version that I have copied and edited (with the same name) is already uploaded to my server. It is not overriding the original theme css file for whatever reason- Did you mean that I have to delete the file found in the wordpress editor?

In reply to: No Save button. The save button I am talking about is in reference to editing code in the editor.

In reply to: Making CSS editable…I don’t have any plug-ins activated. :/
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Error when attempting an install. The only other thing I can think of is that when I zip my files the zip folder places another folder inbetween the original folder and the content- So initially it can’t read the files that it needs to.
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Error when attempting an install.I have this override in my css:
/* @override http://blog.creative-synthesis.com/wp-content/themes/2Exquisite/style.css */
Do you think that could be causing confusion? It’s the only way I could edit the files and see what I was doing…

In reply to: Error when attempting an install.Hmmm…I wonder why it can’t- It’s definitely in that folder. Thanks.

In reply to: Please help me.Okay, I understand that Codex probably has the answers I need somewhere- but quite frankly I don’t understand it. The link that you just sent me has a lot to do with how wordpress decides which files to load- and not so much of how they go into the server, from what I can see.
Yes, I clearly understand now where the files need to be. I said this:
In my server it looks like this
blog.creative-synthesis.com
creative-synthesis.com
wordpress
(and a couple other log/temp directories)Then in wordpress are several folders but the important part is:
wp-content/themes/2Exquisite/my new files + files from the themeSo why isn’t it working?
If I had that wrong you should have just said so instead of repeating what I told you I had in place.
If you check the source of the WP theme you are using, html comes up- that is what I edited. It worked, so I assume that is an okay thing to do. How else could I get rid of things in the html that I didn’t want showing up? I suppose I could hide them in CSS… but its about the same difference as far as I am concerned. Besides for whatever reason I couldn’t get my header to show up as a background image in CSS, but I put it in an img tag in html and it came up perfectly.
(I didn’t create this theme I edited it like I mentioned.)
A moderator should (please) mark this closed.
Why do you want to close this forum when I haven’t gotten any answers? I am sorry you find me so frustrating, and I do thank you for your time. I am not sure why a volunteer has to answer my questions instead of the moderator…I would think WP would have some of those to come regularly answer difficult questions….
Also, you said:
The css you edited has to replace the syle.css that is within your themes folder. That folder has to be in WP/WP-content/themes.
Well, the original theme came up without me ever putting it in my server. WordPress got in my server when I inserted it so it would update to 2.8- then I added the New files (in the correct order) in the WP directory. That is why I am so confused. I don’t know where that old file is coming from… I am almost 100% positive it’s nowhere on my server.

In reply to: I have everything ready, now how do I upload my files? Also a simple hierarchy of folders would be nice to see. From a demo I saw they said just to put all the loose files into your blog folder- that is what I have now…
Are you supposed to have:
WordPress
wc-content
themes
“your theme here”
“your new files”instead???
Or if I need to name anything special that would be useful to know too.
