I just had this problem. It worked out to be that i had too many characters in the event description. No error was reported, events just kept on disappearing. I adjusted the the field ‘text’ in the ‘wp_events_rec’ table and then it started to work better.
It would be nice if there was an error reported if the event cannot be added for this or some other reason.
