Restrict Content does not protection direct links to download files, because when someone requests sitename.com/path/file.zip, that request does not go through WordPress at all and Restrict Content cannot protect it.

There are a few options I can recommend for protecting file downloads.

You can use Easy Digital Downloads, which we also created. It has mechanisms for protecting files, and ways to charge for them if needed.

You can use Download Monitor, which can protect files as well, but does not have any payment options built in. If you use our Pro version, we have an integration with Download Monitor that requires people have an active membership to download (free or paid).

@duongcuong96, adding the if (get_current_blog_id() != get_main_site_id()){ check seems to have fixed it. Is this something you will implement in an update?

Restrict Content doesn’t add that link to the login page URL. It uses its own custom login page. The wp-login.php?register is the standard WordPress user registration URL. You can disable user registration completely if you want by going to Settings > General and disabling the Membership (Anyone can register) option. Screenshot: https://cl.ly/112B1F1R1F1Q
