I didn’t listen and fought my way through. Just a word to anyone else who attempts, with much googling and reading, it is possible! It may not be the cleanest code, but it works. Tutorial
I was able to get it really close to working. My first 4 posts (in my masonry area) start out looking like masonry… then suddenly my 5th post moves down as if using css floats instead of js. Any suggestions?

I’m not sure. I am using the newest version of WordPress and use dreamhost. I did not manually install the theme, I did it through WordPress. Not sure what else I can tell you to help figure out the problem. I also had not edited the theme in any way.
