In reply to: How do I get rid of WordPress?A day later, there’s one other bizarre twist to this debacle: To add to an already confusing situation I’d started having trouble logging into my cPanel in the middle of this. The only way I could get there was via a quasi-back door by logging into my hosting account. I opened another ticket and the tech discovered yet another layer of confusion.
In trying to resolve that conundrum, he discovered that when they added new servers they moved my files over to a new server but never told me about it and never deleted my files from the old server. My files were residing on two separate servers!
I was deleting files the old one but it was making no difference on the active one. Up until a few minutes ago, I was still having to go through my hosting account. When the tech updated that link, unbeknownst to me at the time, it finally took me to the cPanel on the correct server and that was when I found all the WP files. Ai yi frickin’ yi!
I’m attempting to explain this because I feel I owe a couple of you apologies. I know I’m not always the sharpest knife in the drawer but this, to me, was beginning to go beyond the pale. I have had my own domain and/or managed web sites for a few years and I was really getting frustrated with this mess. So I offer my most sincere apologies to you for my unpleasant remarks. I am grateful for your sincere efforts to help me resolve the issue.
I hope you all have had a happy and peaceful Easter holiday. Thanks again.

In reply to: How do I get rid of WordPress?I finally found the culprit. In viewing the public_html folder from the tree on the left side of the File Manager, files appeared that did not show up when drilling down in the directory pane on the right. There was an index.php file. I deleted it along with a few other directories and problem solved.

In reply to: How do I get rid of WordPress?WPyogi, I understand that. If this were that simple I wouldn’t be forced to explain this ridiculous situation to you.
My question remains: I have no index file. My web host has confirmed that there is NO SCRIPT of ANY KIND installed in my directory anywhere. I have gone through my directory file by file to verify there is nothing related to WordPress, WP or anything resembling a blog in any way, shape or form. Why can I not get control of my domain back?
It’s infinitely easier to get rid of a rootkit virus than a ww.wp.xz.cn blog!

In reply to: How do I get rid of WordPress? Thanks for the response but: No, that was my attempt to regain control of my site. There is no such folder in my directory. I have confirmed with my web host that there is no installation of a WordPress script on my site.
WordPress.com has a “Delete Blog” option under “Settings”. Why does WP.org make this so insanely difficult?
